What We Believe
These are the beliefs that we know to be true, foundational to our faith. They drive our decisions, influence our ministries, and inspire our worship and preaching of God’s Word.
Tim Lister
Pastor
Tim has served as the pastor of The Village Church Formby since 2014, but his connection to the church goes back much further. Having grown up in the church, he spent 20 years as part of the congregation before heading to university. His primary responsibilities include teaching God’s Word, leading worship, pastoral care, and shaping the church’s vision and mission.
He holds a BA in Bible from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. While studying in the U.S., he met his wife, Leah, who is from Kansas, and they married in 2005. Tim is passionate about discipleship and loves opening the Bible with others to help them grow in their faith.
Tim and Leah have two children, Ellie and Jackson. He enjoys running, reading, Lego, and hiking with the family dog Indiana Bones. He also appreciates good coffee, meaningful conversations, and the occasional whisky. Though he grew up in Merseyside, he supports Arsenal—some things in life just don’t follow geography!
Our Story
The Big Story
The story of The Village Church Formby is part of a much larger and grander story that God has been writing through the church. The church is not primarily a building, but a people—His people—called by Him to be His presence in the world. It began nearly 2,000 years ago in the cities of Jerusalem and Antioch. The book of Acts recounts the beginning of this movement.
Through the church in Antioch, Paul, the leading teacher and church planter of the early church, and other leaders were sent out to plant more churches throughout Asia and Europe. Wherever there were people, there was a need for a church to share the word of God and serve the needs of the community. The church expanded rapidly throughout the centuries and around the globe, as more and more people were sent out to reach others with God’s Word. That same mission continues today, and in 1983, a small group of believers in Formby gathered to establish a gospel-centred church in their community.

1983
Calvary Baptist Fellowship was formed.
1989
The church moved to its current location on Furness Ave in Formby Village.
1992
The church changed its name to Formby Baptist Church.
1999
The church underwent a building project to expand capacity.
2014
In partnership with Christ Church Liverpool the church underwent a revitalisation and was renamed The Village Church Formby.
